Made in Sheffield

UK 2001, 52 minutes
Dir. Eve Wood
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Music, Documentary / Punk, Pop/Rock

Aroview: Sturdy documentary, obviously crafted by a real fan, which narrates the rise of the electronic music scene in Sheffield in the 1980s aftermath of the punk movement, helping spearhead the even more influential movement towards the 'synthesizer'.

Featuring interviews with members of Cabaret Voltaire, Human League, Heaven 17, Pulp and others, this tells the expected tales, but also works in some rarely told anecdotes and regretful memories, while broadcaster John Peel helps elucidate the meaning of the music. Although this clocks in at only 50 minutes, the DVD features over an hour of extra interview footage, allowing a complete savouring of the lost universe of post-punk.
