Dust to Glory

USA 2005, 97 minutes
Dir. Dana Brown
Genres: Documentary

Topics: Petrolheads.

Aroview: Eyecatching documentary about the Baja 1000, a notorious off-on-road race on the Mexican Baja peninsula, in which competitors drive a range of vehicles from trucks and dune buggies to souped-up family cars and motorbikes.

With the race essentially a non-stop 1000 mile endeavour, which utilises backroads and main highways (complete with normal traffic and cops), this has a chaotic insane quality which attracted stars like Steve McQueen to compete. Increasingly macho in tone, dir. Brown's film unfortunately can't quite retreat enough to bring necessary perspective to events. Still, as fringe sports go, this is one hell of a spectacle.
