A Dance to the Music of Time

UK 1997, 415 minutes
Dir. Alvin Rakoff
Rating: [M]
Genres: Television, Drama

Topics: Period 1920s, Period 1940s.

Aroview: Adapted from Anthony Powell's 12 volume sequence of novels which begins among the aspiring classes of Edwardian Britain and continues across the canvas of the 20th century is compact and effective.

Powell's distinctly comic-erotic vision (comparable to Evelyn Waugh) comes through with an excellent cast, weaving through the complicated relationships of the Widmerpool clan with appropriately light feet. Perhaps one only wishes that more of the novels could have been incorporated, but nonetheless: impressive.
