Captain James Cook (TV Mini Series)

Australia 1987, 400 minutes
Dir. Lawrence Gordon Clark
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Television, Drama, Action/Adventure

Topics: Maritime, Biopic, Period - 1700s.

Aroview: Lavishly-produced series about the epochal sea voyages of Captain James Cook, who set out from Britain in 1768 to observe the transit of Venus and 'discovered' Australia, New Zealand and various Pacific islands.

Made principally on location, using a full-size replica of the 'Endeavour' (built for the Australian bicentenary), this has a salty atmosphere lacking from many historial 'sea dramas'. Michell's performance as the titular Yorkshireman has also been praised for its complexity.
