New Adventures Of Tarzan, The

USA 1938, 99/72 minutes, Black and white
Dir. Edward Kull
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Classics, Action/Adventure

Aroview: Surprisingly gutsy version of the Edgar Rice Burroughs character, originally presented as a 12-part movie serial in competition to the better-known Weismuller movie versions.

Cut down into two feature-length films ("The New Adventures of Tarzan" and "Tarzan and the Green Goddess"), this incarnation definitely scores with the superb physicality of Olympic athlete Herman Brix, great stunts and the authenticity lent by the all-location filming in the jungles of Guatemala. However, the storyline, about a search for a lost airplane and a Mayan idol, is of a decidedly lower quality. Note: Brix later changed his name to Bruce Bennett.
