Aro Recommended Marti - The Passionate Eye

New Zealand 2004, 73 minutes
Dir. Shirley Horrocks
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Documentary / Arts & Artists

Aroview: A celebratory savour of the life and times of New Zealand photographer Marti Friedlander, who arrived from England in 1958 and proceeded to document New Zealand's late-20th century history with particular acumen and intimacy.

Known especially for her photographs of Maori kuia in the 'moko' series (with Michael King), Friedlander also captured events like the protest marches of the 1960s and 1981 Springbok rugby tour, and dir. Horrocks garners some rich conversation from her ebullient subject on these and other matters.
