Nomi Song, The

USA 2003, 96 minutes
Dir. Andrew Horn
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Music, Documentary

Feat. Klaus Nomi

Aroview: Satisfying exploration of the life, music and 'alternate reality' of Klaus Nomi, a late-1970s underground music legend who combined opera histrionics with post-punk synthesizers, and opened eyes with his bizarre make-up and geometrical sci-fi costumes.

Born in Germany, Nomi made a splash on the New York scene in 1978, and proceeded to out-strange everyone from an era of casual outrageousness, even upstaging David Bowie, before dying in 1983, one of AIDS' first prominent casualties. Although dir. Horn never quite solves the riddle of Nomi's intentions, this admirably captures the New Wave zeitgeist at its height.
