Canada / USA 2005, 106 minutes
Dir. Atom Egoyan
Rating: [R18]
Genres: Suspense/Crime, Drama

Topics: Showbiz, Period 1950s.

Aroview: Challenging and kinky mystery drama from dir. Atom Egoyan (EXOTICA), in which a reporter in the 1970s (Lohman) investigates the death by overdose of a young woman 15 years previously and the connection to the breakup of a showbiz duo (Bacon and Firth) at the height of their 1950s celebrity.

Loosely echoing the careers of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, this 'film a clef' imagines a murky backstory of psychosexual deviancy, drugs and diabolical greed fractured by the customary narrative layering of the director. A conscious move to find a wider audience for his distinctive talent, this matches its noirish vision with an impressive performances and a poignant conclusion.
