Flaming Lips - The Fearless Freaks

USA 2005, 110+90 minutes
Dir. Bradley Beesley
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Music, Documentary / Pop/Rock

Aroview: A sprawling fan's-eye-view of the innovative alternative rock band from Oklahoma, The Flaming Lips, who went from 1980s cowpunk obscurity to become acclaimed orchestrators of audiovisual genius on such albums as 'The Soft Bulletin' and 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'.

Tracing the band's inventive aesthetic back to their lowrent roots, this tacks and smudges together home movies, interviews, live footage, backstage horrors and anecdotal dramatic reconstructions with indulgent yet appropriate looseness and love. Also features glimpses of footage from lead-Lip Wayne Coyne's ongoing film project 'Christmas on Mars' (!). This 2-DVD set also includes over 90 minutes of deleted scenes and live concert footage.
