Baryshnikov's The Nutcracker

USA 1977, 78 minutes
Dir. Tony Charmoli
Rating: [G]
Genres: Documentary / Performing Arts, Dance

Aroview: Landmark version of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet 'The Nutcracker', about a young girl on Christmas Eve who enters the magical kingdom of a wizard, Drosselmeyer, who breathes life into inaminate creatures.

Marking Mikhail Baryshnikov's first efforts at choreography, this also features his famous star pairing with Gelsey Kirkland. And while the production is somewhat sparse by today's standards, the overall artistry has made this a deserved favourite for several generations. Produced as a studio performance for the American Ballet Theatre.
