Bullet Boy

UK 2004, 86 minutes
Dir. Saul Dibb
Genres: Drama / Youth, Independent

Aroview: Tough expose of London's violent East End tracks the spiralling events and dire consequences which follow the release of a young black man (Walters) from a spell in prison for a stabbing.

Although determined to get onto the straight and narrow, the companionship of a trigger-happy mate and his adoring younger brother lead to a peer-pressurised showdown with other local gangbangers as well as a raft of family recriminations. Being the first dramatic feature for its documentarian dir., this sketches a close-focus portrait in the style of Ken Loach, although its bragging dead-end characters recall more American 'gangsta' models.
