Matador, The

Aroview: Deftly-toned comedy tracks the chance meeting in Mexico City of a sleazy, aging hitman (Brosnan) and a struggling dotcom consultant (Kinnear), which leads to an unlikely friendship and some unwanted consequences.

In the key role, Brosnan hilariously subverts his Bond typecast as a vulgarian killer facing a midlife crisis, which soon warps into several dire professional misjudgements. Turning up several months later in a rather desperate state on Kinnear, and his wife Hope Davis', doorstep precipitates more semi-comic chaos, given creedence by the side-stepping characterisations of the cast.
