Aroview: Searing psychological drama from the dir. of LANTANA pinpoints a small outback community in Australia, examining the ripple effects created by the discovery of a dead woman's body by four men on a fishing trip, who against all logic, continue to fish.
Broadening Raymond Carver's short story 'So Much Water Close to Home' (previously integrated by Robert Altman into SHORT CUTS) into a wider socio-political context, dir. Lawrence micro-manages a narrative of creeping malaise, measured powerfully by an undertow of doubt, guilt and mistrust, and complemented superbly by a two first-rate performances.
Even more than LANTANA, Lawrence's drama is rich and rewarding in its human complexity.
