Unlikely Travellers

Australia 2007, 101 minutes
Dir. Michael Noonan
Genres: Documentary / Sociology

Topics: Mental Health.

Aroview: A refreshingly open doco framing a group of intellectually disabled travellers on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Egypt, following their preparation, home life, training and ultimate journey.

The group's mental disabilities range from autism to schizophrenia, but this doco succeeds in allowing its audience to look beyond the labels these people must battle against to the unique individuals they are. A sympathetic portrayal of a group in society that are so often overlooked, their enthusiasm for exploring the world and facing their personal demons makes for truly uplifting viewing.
