Then She Found Me

Aroview: Rom-com focused on a woman (portrayed and directed by a wrinkles-and-all Helen Hunt) dealing with a perplexing mid-life crisis filled with prospective mothers, divorce and blossoming romance.

Interestingly temperate in tone, this does little to get the laughs going – Hunt’s character is almost depressingly gaunt and down-and-out – until Bette Midler and Colin Firth come along and spice things up by being over-the-top and awkwardly charming, respectively. Despite the gloominess, Hunt is to be commended by tackling somewhat unfashionable issues (adoption and middle age, what a combo!) with such tenacity.
