Gay Sex in the 70's

USA 2005, 70 minutes
Dir. Joseph F. Lovett
Rating: [R18]
Genres: Documentary / LGBT

Aroview: An honest look at gay sex in Manhatten during the 70s, this captures a moment in time between two historical benchmarks: when homosexuality was 'liberated' in the late 60s (post Stonewall), and when the first case of AIDS was reported in the early 80s.

Armed with arrays of photographs and film footage, dir. Lovett and his interviewees are keen to stress the unparalleled hedonism of the time, where the general mantra seemed to be 'if it feels good, do it'. Both a nostalgia-tinged tribute to the excessive freedom and a brutal cautionary tale, this is a wonderfully executed slice of social history.
