Charlie Bartlett

USA 2007, 97 minutes
Dir. Jon Poll
Rating: [M]
Genres: Comedy / Independent, Youth

Aroview: Indie comedy focused around wealthy Charlie Bartlett (Yelchin) the newcomer at Western Summit High who becomes the self-appointed psychiatrist - and chemist - to the student body.

Although Bartlett doesn't quite have the charms of his other listless teenaged cinema contemporaries - Ferris Bueller, Max Fischer et al - he's an amiable enough miscreant to root for, particularly when he's dispensing copious amounts of Ritalin to snooty mummy's boys with delicate physiques. Certainly, the film is at its most enjoyable when it’s revelling in misbehaviour, although its need to wrap things up neatly in a conventional package dampens the cheeky spirit somewhat.
