Golden Coach

Aroview: Dir. Renoir's classic comedy focuses on a group of commedia dell'arte actors in the eighteenth Century and the much-desired central figure of the group, Camilla (Magnani), who must decide between three men's competing affections.

Renoir blends artifice and reality to great effect here, gradually entwining the gaudy, elaborate showmanship of theatre with the film’s 'real' narrative, until a midway point where he shatters the fourth wall entirely. Beautiful score by Vivaldi.
