Wesley Willis: The Daddy of Rock 'n' Roll

USA 2003,
Dir. Daniel Bitton
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Documentary, Music

Topics: Mental Health.

Aroview: Fittingly lo-fi portrait of the infamous and frighteningly prolific outsider artist Wesley Willis, a morbidly obese schizophrenic whose crude 'songs' - essentially Willis speaking over keyboard demos - brought him a measure of notoriety in the nineties.

Consisting chiefly of Willis visiting friends, writing songs, and shopping for books on animals for his 'bestiality songs', the film is as basic as Willis' music and neither is it particularly insightful, but fans of the artist will probably be content with the wealth of footage and unique performances captured here.
