Aroview: Murnau's lost pastoral beauty about a Minnesota boy who marries a tough city girl and brings her home at harvest time, where their love is complicated by the bitterness of his father and the jealousy of the farming community. Influential on both Terrence Malick and Jean Vigo.

3 stars (Good Enough) The first half is set in the city with its impressive number of extras. The second half is on the farm with wheat fields now in the supporting role. For any film from the 30's to stand the test of time as a compelling drama needs no further comment.~tubbs
