5 stars (Exceptional) Irvine Welsh is as stunning as Burroughs in his ability to portray the world of an addict, and Boyle successfully brings his vision to the big screen with all the dark humour, gritty realism, and harrowing hallucinations that it deserves. ~Tom H

4 stars (Very Good) The story of Mark and a bunch of his friends that consist of junkies, thieves, liars and psychos, and the self-destructive lives they lead. Unconventional and non-judgemental - it's squalid, hilarious and harrowing. ~GenXGirl
