Aroview: Exceptional mother-daughter drama that won British actress Janet McTeer an Oscar nomination for her dedicated portrait of a sassy, impetuous Southern Belle with bad judgement in men and a habitual need to move on when the going gets tough.

Settling into a familiar pattern via a blue-collar Californian beau (played by co-writer/director Gavin O'Connor), she inflames her precious/precarious relationship with her long-suffering 12-year-old (Kimberly J. Brown). The central dynamic is portrayed in subtle and convincing detail.

5 stars (Exceptional) Stunning. Janet McTeer is something to behold. Compare this to the part she plays in Mr Nobbs and you can understand how very good this actor is. Also the portrayal of the long suffering 12 year old daughter by Kimberly Brown. ~Pops
