Aroview: A straight Hollywood remake of the Spanish sci-fi thriller OPEN YOUR EYES by the director of ALMOST FAMOUS – the result of which plays like the awkward, mutant progeny of both (superior) films.

Maybe passable ‘entertainment’ for those that haven’t seen the original but even then, the pop music that saturates the soundtrack is as incongruous and distracting as the presence of Tom Cruise, Jason Lee and Cameron Diaz.

The complicated plot may be easier to follow without the subtitles, but for a wholly more authentic, unsettling experience (and Penelope Cruz speaking her native tongue) we suggest you to check out the original film...twice.

2 stars (Good Try) There is good sci-fi in there somewhere but the emphasis of the screenplay is more on Cruise which because he is one of the producers I suppose is understandable. More quality, rather than commercial appeal, in some casting decisions, would have helped. ~Tubbs
