Aroview: Big-budget, lavish re-enactment of America’s curtain-raiser in the Vietnam War, the fierce battle of la Drang, with an all-star cast up to their ankles in carnage and brutal combat-scenes.
Fuzzily non-political, with hurried glances to the home-front and behind Vietnamese lines, this serves, depending on how you look at it, as a universal tribute to soldiers’ loyalty to their task or to present-day notions of the neo-warrior ethos.

4 stars (Very Good) We Were Soldiers is by no means a classic anti-war film, but it does have an emotional and gripping plot, and it remains respectful and mostly 'realistic' in its portrayal of the Vietnam war.~Tom H
