Aroview: Action-packed Southern potboiler set around the attempts of a sheriff to protect an escaped convict from mob-justice in smalltown Texas.

Packed with talent and scripted by Lillian Hellman (THE LITTLE FOXES), this promised much, but fallouts between dir. Penn and producer Sam Spiegel flawed the results. Still worth a look though for Brando's brooding performance, lurid visuals and a feel for violent action that prefigures BONNIE AND CLYDE.
