Winsor McCay - Animation Legend

USA, 100 minutes
Dir. Winsor McCay
Genres: Classics / Animation

Topics: Shorts, Landmark.

Aroview: Though his surviving oeuvre is small, animator and artist Winsor McCay (1869-1934) was extremely influential in the early development of the cartoon comedy as we know it.

Renowned for his dreamlike cartoons 'Little Nemo in Slumberland' and 'Dreams of a Rarebit Fiend', perhaps his best known work for cinema would be 'Gertie the Elephant'. This tape features virtually all of his extant cinematic work, ten short films, plus a few fragments.

Main titles: 'Little Nemo', 'How the Mosquito Operates', 'Gertie the Dinosaur', 'The Sinking of the Lusitania', 'Gertie on Tour', 'The Centaurs', 'Flip's Circus', 'Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend: The Pet', 'Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend: The Flying House', 'Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend: Bug Vaudeville'
