JawsJaws (1975)Aro Favourite
5 stars (Exceptional) Alien (1979) of the Sea before 'Alien' was even a thing! Tense and superbly acted stone cold classic!
Creature Walks Among Us, TheCreature Walks Among Us, The (1956)
3 stars (Good Enough) Diminishing returns 3rd time around. The Creatures designed is changed and he becomes land based. Despite the way it's made to sound, he's not amok in the City but mostly placid at a beach house.
XtroXtro (1982)
4 stars (Very Good) They threw all sorts of batshit crazy madness at the wall on this one – has to be seen if you’re a fan of Sci/Fi / Horror / Exploitation / Mind Trip stuff. Disturbing in a fun 80’s bizaro schlock way.
Secret of Nimh, TheSecret of Nimh, The (1982)Recommended
3 stars (Good Enough) Quite dark themes / scenes for a ‘kids’ movie, but they built em tough in the 80’s. Simple central story elevated by the performances and animation. Good way to spend some time perhaps on a rainy lazy day.
Black Cauldron, TheBlack Cauldron, The (1985)
4 stars (Very Good) Not your usual Disney animated fare. Horror elements sit alongside the magic / fantastical themes. Apparently had kids and parents freaking out in the 80’s, but it’s all good silly enjoyable fun. Cult Classic.
OutlandOutland (1981)
3 stars (Good Enough) Shares similar design elements with the ‘Alien’ franchise & the composer as Alien (1979)–worth a watch if you’re a fan of that series for those aspects alone. Sparse dialogue / a cold atmosphere and ‘lived in future’ – in a good way if that’s your jam.
