Permanent Vacation
Aroview: Directorial debut feature for future icon Jim Jarmusch, who made this on the cusp of graduating from film school.
Set around the wanderings of a youthful NYC hipster who strolls the sidewalks of the New Wave era plotting his rise to notoriety, getting his dress sense just so, enthusing about Charlie Parker and milling around his apartment. While raw in places, this makes a refreshing contrast to the dir.'s trademark ironies, also operating as something of a 'Big Apple' time capsule. Music by John Lurie.
