Aro Recommended Rock School

USA 2005, 93 minutes
Dir. Don Argott
Genres: Documentary

Aroview: From the 'is this for real?' school of documentary, dir. Argott investigates the "Paul Green School of Rock Music", where 9 to 17 year-olds in Philadelphia can learn the ropes at becoming true rock'n'rollers.

The inspiration for Richard Linklater's SCHOOL OF ROCK, Green proves far more unusual, intelligent and unhinged than the Jack Black equivalent, inspiring and provoking his students with Hannibal Lector take-offs, Zappa tunes and the occasional psychotic moment. Although this only hints at the psychological roots of Green's motivations (substitute wish fulfillment?), this builds to a genuinely exciting portrait of fostered talent.
