Played by Lau as a teenager seeking to perfect his combat skills and restore his honour in ancient China, the story has an idealistic, almost pacifist slant, but is possessed of a clean, no-nonsense approach to martial arts action. The director returned to the story with DRUNKEN MASTER 2, though left that production due to "creative differences" with star Jackie Chan.
