Hong Kong 1941
Aroview: One of Chow Yun-Fat's early classics, this portrays the disturbing invasion of Hong Kong by the Japanese in 1941, which disrupts the dreams and plans of three friends - an unemployed actor, gangster and a sick girl. Crafting a semi-romantic narrative which uses the sickening activities of the Japanese and their Chinese collaborators as a dark backdrop, this is cunningly effective as a war melodrama, and certainly worth a look.
