Three...Extremes
Aroview: Three prominent Asian maestros of terror serve up an intense and rewarding portmanteau of short horror works.
'Dumplings' (Dir. Fruit Chan) - A former TV star, obsessed with reversing the aging process to preserve her beauty, turns to special dumplings, served up in a highrise apartment block. Too late the horrendous consequences of the recipe are revealed...
'Cut' (Dir. Park Chan-Wook) - Another elaborate revenge scenario from the dir. of OLD BOY, with a disgruntled individual setting a fiendishly awful trap (involving piano-wire and a bungy-cord) for a successful film director and his family.
'Box' (Dir. Takashi Miike) - The dir. of AUDITION here proffers a surreal tale of a troubled writer and former circus-performer whose jealousy resulted in the death of her twin sister.

4 stars (Very Good) Visually impressive short works each taking you on an entirely different experience of psychological suspense, horror, and confusion. Not for the faint of heart, these unconventional short films may soon become cult favourites. ~Tom H
