Flame Trees of Thika, The (TV Mini Series)
Aroview: A nostalgic and wonderfully-photographed adaptation of Elspeth Huxley's memoir of growing up in Kenya in the 1910s, where her well-off family had moved to try and make their fortune in the coffee plantation business.
While their dream succumbs to the pressures of climate, competition, wildlife and 'natives', an enchanting bond with the landscape begins to form. While never really addressing the stark ironies of the story, especially its celebration of an imperialistic lifestyle, this is more successful in presenting the maturing perspective of its narrator.
