Missing In America
Aroview: Set around a "bush vet", a reclusive Vietnam veteran (Glover) who lives in the lonely pine forests of Washington State, this solid drama takes an overly sincere look at the consequences of war, but is brooding and authentic enough to achieve a certain uniqueness.
Glover's isolation is broken by a visit from a former comrade (Strathairn) who charges him with the care of his Asian-American daughter while he goes into hospital. Slowly evolving an unlikely friendship, the duo eventually seek out other 'bush vets' (such as the ominously-disturbed Perlman) in an attempt to provide homegrown rehabilitation. Written by ex-Green Beret Ken Miller, this pushes many familiar buttons, but the dank cinematography ultimately provides the necessary foreboding to draw out some original insights.
