Genesis
Aroview: A meticulous nature-documentary, complete with venerably-scientific narration, which scrutinises some of the more unusual, compelling and downright bizarre details of life on Planet Earth, coalescing into an all-encompassing comment on the nature of creation, evolution and decay in an expanding universe.
As this description might suggest, the filmmaker's ambitions are somewhat greater than with their earlier MICROCOSMOS, and to a certain extent they do succeed in raising questions about the 'nature' of Nature's beauty and the meaning of the violent struggle that often lurks beneath its deceptively-pretty surface. However, even if such connections are eventually rather wished-for, there remains a wonderful pageant of lusty existence in the raw.
