Iron Jawed Angels
Aroview: Fairly inventive telemovie concerning the rise of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, which had the aim of gaining voting and other rights for women in the early 20th century.
Led by Alice Paul (Swank), a fringe of more-'iron willed' activists risked their lives in a series of sometimes bloody confrontations and protests in the 1910s, before finally forcing the 19th Amendment on President Woodrow Wilson. Dir. von Garnier peps up this period drama with a bit of jumpy, MTV-inspired editing and a contemporary rock and R&B soundtrack, including the likes of Lauryn Hill and Sarah McLachlan.
