Dir. Luc Jacquet
Genres: Documentary, Family / Science Fact
Topics: Animal Antics, Educational Resource.
Aroview: An engrossing and naturally spectacular documentary epic, which 'dramatises' the perils and hardship of the Emperor Penguin's annual migration - single file across a vast Antarctic glacier - to engage in their courtship and mating process.
Something of a surprise hit around the world, dir. Jacquet succeeds in by skillfully anthropomorphising nature, making it easy to identify with the plucky, waddling birds as they try to rear their fluffy youngsters, while extreme weather (blizzards, cutting wind and far-below-zero temperatures) and leopard seals prove formidable antagonists. Narration by Morgan Freeman.
