Red Lion
Aroview: A fine samurai comedy from dir. Okamoto (KILL!), has a luckless soldier (Toshiro Mifune) don a brilliant red hairpiece (thus impersonating a Shogunate official) and return to his home village to announce royal reforms beneficial to the peasants, only to find it mired in corruption and injustice.
Boasting one of Mifune's most stylised comic performances - as he stumbles into a situation way out of his depth - this has a pretty unique sense of humour grafted onto its classic plotline. Essential viewing for fans of vintage samurai cinema.
