Aroview: Highly effective 'sequel of sorts' to JUMANJI, with two squabbling kid brothers unearthing a strange clockwork boardgame in the basement, which upon being played propels the family home, complete with Dad (Robbins), into the outer reaches of the solar system!
Adapted from the picture-book by Chris Van Allsburg (see also POLAR EXPRESS), this manages to herd, with imaginative aplomb and a lack of fuss, several divergent subplots about cryonic freezing, a giant robot and a fleet of nasty Zorgon aliens, finishing up with a requisite happy ending that feels thoroughly earned. Dir. Favreau certainly earns his stripes on this winning melange of adventure, CGI and sentiment.

2 stars (Good Try) A bit like a modern day version of Jumanji, only this time two brothers discover an old tattered metal space-themed game which, with the roll of a dice, has some unusual qualities. Slight let-down as it feels like it's all been done before. ~GenXGirl
3 stars (Good Enough) The plus is the visuals and the great creatures - which only just counterbalance the screaming argumentative kids. ~Tubbs
