Lassie
Aroview: The 'Lassie' franchise returns faithfully to England in this rambling and affable remake, in which an impoverished mining family in 1930s Yorkshire is forced to sell their beloved collie dog to an eccentric aristocrat (O'Toole).
However, after the pooch is shipped off to Scotland on the eve of WW2, she succeeds in breaking free and begins a 500-mile trek back home via Glasgow, court appearances and, most bizarrely, the Loch Ness monster. Although the outcome arrives as predetermined as clockwork, this is handsomely produced and manages several glimpses at the privations of Depression-era Britain.
