Oh! What a Lovely War
Aroview: Powerful anti-war musical adapted from the play by Charles Chilton, which depicts the mass blunder of WWI through the experiences of the poor Smith family, whose sons all meet their end in the trenches. But rather than relying on violence to convey the senselessness of war, dir. Attenborough orchestrates song, dance, absurd comedy and wit into a wholly satisfying masterpiece of grand irony.

4 stars (Very Good) Amazingly it was the director's first film. Most of the cream of the British acting aristocracy were recruited, the set designs and artwork were outstanding, the satire heavy, and the great songs relevant to the period. ~Tubbs
