Tempest, The
Aroview: One of dir. Jarman's early triumphs, reimagines Shakespeare's final play as a blend of Edwardian drama, cabaret carnival and punk jamboree, all infused with a misty visual poetry.
Shot on location around a variety of dilapidated ruins and stately homes, the story of Prospero, Caliban, Ariel and Miranda (played by New Wave singer Toyah Wilcox) gets perhaps it's most eccentric and yet affecting cinematic reading, even trumping Greenaway's PROSPERO'S BOOKS in capturing a certain elusive magic.
