White Masai, The
Aroview: A mysterious, well-textured tale of attraction concerns a young Swiss woman travelling in Africa with her boyfriend who becomes infatuated with a Kenyan Masai warrior and decides to defy convention by courting and marrying him.
Featuring fine photography, dusty locales and honest performances, dir. Huntgeburth effectively dramatises the cultural differences between the lovers, as they settle down to a build a family and open a grocery store, but become conflicted over tribal conventions concerning female circumcision and the status of women. Although not entirely getting to the bottom of the issues, this displays an admirable courage. Based on the autobiography by Corrine Hofman.
