Paper Clips

USA 2005, 84 minutes
Dir. Elliot Berlin, Joe Fab
Rating: [G]
Genres: Documentary / Sociology

Aroview: Straightforward and rather touching documentary about a schoolroom project in the backwoods Tennessee town of Whitwell which aimed to raise awareness of the Holocaust by collecting 6 million paper-clips - one for each Jewish victim of the Nazis - ending up as a celebrated international campaign with a permanent memorial being constructed out of the clips.

Shot on video and edited with an appropriate simplicity, this carries any number of exemplary messages and is a fittingly constructive way to remember the Shoah and observe how a typical 'Southern' American town, near to the birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan, transformed itself through the project.
