Shake Hands With the Devil
Aroview: Arresting account of the deplorable Rwandan genocide, told through the eyes of one of the most controversial figures surrounding the 1994 massacre, UN forces commander Roméo Dallaire.
As a first-hand witness to the pure hell, a man blamed by many for not acting, and a man hamstrung by the fact the international media cared more about Kurt Cobain’s death, Dallaire makes a painful and sobering subject. The documentary looks at Dallaire’s return to Rwanda ten years later, and while on the face it appears Rwanda is moving forward, this powerful film shows through the figure of Dallaire that the scars run far deeper than most in the West are willing to acknowledge.
