Berated for ‘selling out’ in a popular, yet critically maligned sitcom of dumbed-down humour and throwaway catch phrases, Gervais’ Millman now struggles to coalesce commerce and art, all the while babysitting his two perennial sidekicks: the ditzy but delightful Maggie (Jensen), and his idiot for an agent (Merchant). Though charting a more success-filled course for his everyman character, Gervais extracts even more excruciating comedy this time around – the BAFTAS episode in particular will have you digging a hole to hide from the sheer embarrassment on display.
