Death of a President
Aroview: An audacious faux-documentary that contrives an utterly convincing scenario around the fictional assassination of President George W. Bush.
Replicating the exact format of an actual political documentary, suspension of disbelief is sustained brilliantly through both the performances of the interviewees and the seamless editing of stock and staged footage. Rather than explore the wider ramifications of such an event, this focuses on where the finger points and how the facts are typically distorted by emotions and prejudice in the post-9/11 era.
By fabricating the murder of a living person, this is of course ethically questionable and inevitably controversial, but that's also what makes it ultimately unique and fascinating.
