Manufacturing Dissent
Aroview: Not just another debunking of Michael Moore, this thoughtful, well-considered essay on the left winger’s political documentaries exposes filmmaking shortcuts, and the duplicity behind his hand grenade polemics.
Never imbalanced in their plan of attack, directors Melnyk and Caine politely hound Moore for an elusive face-to-face interview, mimicking the documentarian’s own pursuit of answers in ROGER AND ME, and uncovering a succession of awful truths along the way. While Moore’s artful dodging leaves the film without a final exclamation mark, its evaluation remains firm, fair, and grounded where other hysterical conspiracy theorists have tended to fly off the rails.
