Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer, The

UK 1970, 98 minutes
Dir. Kevin Billington
Genres: Classics, Comedy

Topics: Politics, Media, Satire.

Aroview: Follow the meteoric rise of one Michael Rimmer, an entry-level ad exec. who turns a fledging agency into an industry heavyweight, graduates to politics, and lands the prime minister’s seat in parliament.

A ruthless satire in the survival-of-the-fittest mould, Peter Cook leads the way in this farcical ascent into madness, and he’s supported by a host of choice cameos: playwright Harold Pinter, among them. The shenanigans are co-scripted by Graham Chapman and John Cleese.
