Halloween
Aroview: Rocker-turned-horrormeister Rob Zombie's resurrection of the 1978 slasher classic, which tells the tale of an escaped mental patient on a terrifying rampage in his home town.
Expanding John Carpenter’s seminal film into a history of violence – that is, by elaborating on Michael Myer’s tortured childhood – dir. Zombie realigns the focus of the franchise to its undying hockey-masked murderer. As such, the inevitable bloodletting is tempered by moments of odd, searching earnestness, making this a somewhat unique, if still flagrantly referential, addition to the horror remake subgenre.

4 stars (Very Good) An excellent reboot of the Halloween franchise, Zombie proves his worth as horror master. Giving some insight to Michael's past is commendable, setting this apart from the original while keeping a similarly serious creep factor. ~Tom H
